In 2020 you can still apply for a residency 18 April – 27 June, 15 August – 5 September and 15 September – 30 October. Generally we accept residencies of 3 weeks until 2 months.

OBRAS-Portugal is located in a savanna-like landscape, with a view on a medieval fortress. Nature starts at your doorstep. Highlights in the wider surroundings are megalithic monuments, abandoned marble quarries, dreamy villages and Évora: a university town with UNESCO world heritage status.

We offer (emerging) professional artists an inspiring residency in a peaceful, rural environment, with good working spaces and support for specific activities (such as open studio and other public events).

Generally there will be some six artists. Each work individually and have all privacy; collaborations are on your own initiative. Twice a week we organize an artist talk and shared dinner in an informal atmosphere.

Apart from spacious apartments and studios, the Center has lots of options for working in nature. It is surrounded by nature. There is a swimming pool 50 m from the main house. The abandoned marble quarries (on 10 km from the Center) have much potential.

The rate for one person for renting an apartment is 100 € per week. If you need in addition a studio this is 25 € per week. See www.obras-art.org for more info, including an application form.

We generally expect you to give an artist talk in an informal atmosphere.
