Studio Faire is a contemporary residency space in South West France, providing residencies for all creative practitioners.

Studio Faire is now accepting applications from writers, photographers, musicians and designers for a 1 week residency from 12 – 18 March 2020.

The residency is based in a beautiful ‘Maison de maître’ built around 1830 and still retaining its period characteristics. Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony, here you will find the ‘real’ unspoilt France. Medieval Villages are surrounded by green rolling hills that lead your eye to the horizon via fruit orchards and vines. The perfect place to slow down and focus.

Your hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Artist (specialising in Textiles) and Web Designer. They are also well connected in the area and willing to share their knowledge and contacts with you during your stay. There will be two other residents at Studio Faire during your stay with whom you can share information and ask for feedback.

The successful applicant will be provided with a private office space, with desk and garden views, and private double bedroom.

The walled garden is enclosed, offering private, shaded space for reading or writing under the mature trees, or for dining with fellow residents on the patio. Beyond that there is a wild park full of fruit trees, a perfect hideaway!

Even though the property sits on a main road, the large rooms and enclosed acre of garden at the back give a feeling of isolation and are ideal places for focused work. The town is just a 10 minutes stroll away over the beautiful river Baïse, which meanders by just a five-minute walk from the house and is the perfect place to stretch your legs and clear your mind.

This self-directed residency is a self-funded residency. Fees include a private room and office, plus shared bathroom, kitchen, dining room and gardens.

Studio Faire offers all creative practitioners a change of pace and the space to create.

Duration of residency

Studio Faire’s residencies last from a minimum of 1 week to a maximum of 4 weeks.

Accommodation

A choice of three private double bedrooms are available to residents. These rooms share a shower room with toilet. Accommodation is provided on a self-catering basis.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance

This particular open call is aimed at creative practitioners who can work in a small, clean space with a desk.

Studio / Workspace

‘The Bureau’ is a small room (233 x 290cm) on the ground floor at the back of the house, with a view out over the large back garden.

It’s nicely tucked away, like a large cupboard under the stairs… an ideal hideaway.

This room offers privacy and a desk facing the garden view, with the option to watch squirrels chase around mature trees whenever you need a moment to ponder.

Fees and support

1 week = 460 €

Rates include: private bedroom and workspace with WiFi, plus shared shower room, toilets, kitchen, dining room and gardens.

Expectations towards the artist

As this is a self-funded residency, Studio Faire has no expectations towards the artist and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.
