Our next round of residencies will take place from August to November 2020, with applications closing in November 2019.
Artists can choose from two self-contained cabins and share the use of a large workshop, which operates as a construction space for puppets and performance objects for most of the year. Artists, makers, writers, musicians, performers and scientists are invited to stay for a period of between 1 and 3 weeks, with their own cabin and access to shared space. We will endeavour to schedule simultaneous residencies to facilitate creative exchange. While there is no expectation of a creative output or presentation, we encourage experimentation and collaboration and can provide technical assistance, help residents to source materials, and put you in touch with local schools and community organisations for any projects or showings.
We will arrange transport to and from airports/train stations, and into town for shopping trips and outings. Some meals may be shared but cooking facilities are provided in the cabins so residents can make their own meals.
Applicants can choose from either a) The Kevin, a big converted caravan with double and single bed, wood stove, kitchen, shared toilet, tiny shower and large verandah, or b) The Crate, a single-room converted shipping container with double bed, kitchen, verandah, outdoor shower/bath and long drop toilet.
The main shared workshop is 7x7m with a 6m high ceiling. There are also plenty of outdoor spaces and a covered area for dusty and noisy work. We have tools for woodworking and metal working, sculpture, painting and fabric work, and cleaner quieter spaces can be arranged.
Residents should expect peace and silence, plenty of space, lots of wildlife, a busy workshop, assistance if needed, and a degree of roughing it. It’s a kid paradise, and children, partners, collaborators are welcome. We can also host some pets by prior arrangement and with some conditions, such as shutting dogs in at dusk for the sake of the wildlife.
