Heima is a multidisciplinary art residency for emerging and established artists located in Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland. The physical space is a 350 square meter combined house and studio/exhibition space. They encourage applications from a wide range of artists of different cultural and geographic backgrounds and are open for applications for all phases – from initial research to finishing works.

Residents will be selected based on the quality of their work, commitment to their practice, and ability to interact positively with the community at large.

Duration of residency

<p>In 2020 Heima will offer 3 different residency periods: 2 periods of 50 days and 1 period of 80 days. Each residency carries six carefully curated artist. The program is self-directed and offer accommodation and shared studio spaces. All 6 artist will live together and have acces to multiple studio spaces + have their own private bedroom. The four diffrent residency periods that you are able to apply for are:</p>
<p>(50 days) Dates ——> 04.05.2020 – 22.06.2020<br />
(80 days) Dates ——> 03.08.2020 – 23.10.2020<br />
(50 days) Dates ——> 02.11.2020 – 18.12.2020</p>

Accommodation

<p>Heima will select 6 artists for each residency period. All artist will live in the same house with access to studio spaces + have their own bedroom.</p>

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance

<p>We encourage applications from Icelandic and International contemporary artists working in a wide range of disciplines including visual art, film, text work, performance, sound and curating. We are open for applications for all phases – from initial research to finishing works.</p>
<p>The space is a 350 square meters living and studio space.</p>
<p>The program is self-organised by the artists, with support from the HEIMA crew.</p>
<p>We encourage artists to bring materials and equipment for their practice. Basic art supplies are available in the neighbouring town.</p>

Studio / Workspace

Fees and support

<p>The residency fee is 150.000 ISK (approximately 1100 Euro) for 50 days and 250.000 ISK (approximately 1800 Euro) for 80 days. The residency fee covers accommodation and studio space.<br />
The 6 artists will have individual bedrooms and shared living and studio spaces.<br />
The residency fee is to be paid in advance and is non-refundable. Residents must provide for their own food, travel, and miscellaneous expenses.</p>

<p>We expect you to have a strong commitment to your practice and the ability to interact positively with the fellow artists-in-residence and community at large.</p>
