ATTENTION>> LGBTQ+ Artists of all media. Myth & Magic- Creative investigation of how stories affect LGBTQ+ community’s position and influence in the world. // Free Accommodation offered to artist in Costa Rica for 2020.
We will offer *free housing to an artist(s) who investigate, with their chosen creative medium, on how the stories or –lack of– affect how we treat each other and how we are treated by society. Most mythological representations or ‘guided frame stories’ have been cut, rewritten or grossly misinterpreted about gender beyond existence in the human race.
Social media is a atrocious with Grindr, Facebook, Snapchat, etc, focusing content on body type, age, sexual position that further shame and fear of each other. Religious fanaticism and Madison Avenue meme/money baiting of how queers should look and treat each other. There have been some breakthroughs, yet, are these lifting our community to healthier values that comprise empathy and compassion?
Furthermore, where’s the magic? Gender bending energy was considered one of the most magical traits of divine mythical heroes. How is drag a form of shamanism and shapeshifting? Can our community come together and further ‘tolerance’ of our magical selves to ‘we are INTEGRAL to the health of society’. Society needs gender fluidity, especially at the time of the collapse of patriarchal systems. Do we need another ‘archy’ of any kind to shift the dynamics of consciousness in 3-D? Perhaps it is time to summon LBGTQ+ artists together and examine what are the potentials of community and prepare to offer leadership to the world.
Without a doubt, circuit parties, recreational chemical drugs have left an emptiness. While legislation continues to awaken equality—to some degree, the foundation of the motive is questionable at times.
We offer you a safe haven to dive deep into the mastery of your art and the usefulness of shifting perception in the world at one of the most dire times in history.
Our Center is wildly unique; it combines ecology, community, mutual cooperation and the arts at a fantastic location within remarkable facilities. We aim to change the relationship of the arts (moving beyond art as strictly commodity or objectification) towards a way to balance the dire situation on the planet, by providing promising interaction between communities and artists that benefit and heal the natural ecosphere.
We provide rustic, comfortable, imaginative habitats for artists to create and imagine easily with the muse. Lodging is located in a hilly environment with access to group kitchen. We have 5-shared bathrooms. From private/shared cabins to lofts, or dorm rooms, we have a place that is right for all types of artists. Housing is shared only on agreement and is private unless otherwise stated.
The cabins are suitable for live/work space, and we have separate workshops available for construction/clay/wood working, etc. Dance, theatre can be held in the common building, our dance tower, outdoor amphitheater, or our elevated tree platform. Film/Photography is possible anywhere. Writing can be facilitated in a number of spaces that include our screened in Kiosk (also for photography).

We invite an artist to utilize and expand the use of the arts in order to address difficult topics considering gay people in Latin America and the world. Queer community is thriving, yet western perception brings with it unfavorable consequences of ageism, racism, mass consumption, irresponsible sex/drug culture (meth/ketamine/etc.) and social media distractions.
Jaguar Luna Cultural Arts Collective’s programs are devoted to social/ consciousness and environmental positive transformation through the arts. We look forward to welcoming an artist(s) to investigate the stories we tell each other and the mainstream society.
Costa Rica is set to open the country to gay marriage in 2020. Its supreme court notoriously and bravely dismissed same-sex marriage ban as discriminatory and unconstitutional in 2018. The recent elections of 2018 were dramatically influenced by the subject of same-sex unions… to the point of calling for 2 balloting cycles. However, rural queers still live in fear, adults hide in marriages, and machismo still threatens with violence to LBGTQ+. If this vital sector of society is a universal influencer in worldwide politics and social change, how can the arts lift up this amazing gender revolution in the Latin Americas and the world?
Whether writing, painting, sculpting, dance/performance, film or other, we are ready for dynamic artists to assist world society and explore the magic and mythology of LGBTQ+. How can liberating queers in Latin America help heal toxic masculinity and the collapsing patriarchy? Can queers/gay society help raise consciousness and expand a healing watershed movement with regards to attention to the environmental crisis and solutions?
We welcome all types of artistic ideas. We understand that the work may be flushed out or even changed while at the Center. Therefore, we seek to hear your inspiration on why this project appeals to your compassion. When sending your proposal, please include any relevant artworks that share your manner of shifting perception through the arts. We encourage you to find ways to share your art that you create while at our center and we will promote your works through our various websites and Facebook/Instagram. We welcome translation of artworks into Spanish.
