Vilarcangel is open for creative minds that seek time to reflect, discuss and create. Vilarcangel provides time, space, and an inspiring environment for emerging and established international artists to explore and develop their creative process.
The program guidelines:
What is the focus of the residency program including its aims and objectives? At Vilarcangel we think about the human condititions, ecology and spirituality.
We want the artists to disconnect from their daily routine. We want them to feel free to experiment. Let the beautiful nature embrace them. We want people to talk about their boundaries and obstacles and then try to get loose, and let go for a while. We want the artists to feel completely free to try new disciplines. We end the residency program with a group exhibition at the finca itself.
We are looking for international artists that are seeking time away from home and their daily routine. Artists that are experimental and open minded. Working with different disciplines is preferable. We prefer a combination between emerging and established artists because we like it when people can learn from each other and get inspired.
We think about: The Human condition, ecology and spirituality. We work in an experimental and multi-disciplinair way.

Vilarcangel is a cultural centre founded in 2008, housed in an amazing and authentic rural finca. You are surrounded by beautiful, fertile nature, in the midst of an operating orange plantation on the banks of the river Jë£car.
The finca was built in 1885. Its 650m2 are divided in 11 bedrooms, 3 kitchens, 2 living areas, a library, an activity room, atelier and studio, 4 chimneys, 2 terraces and 3 bathrooms. Wi-Fi is available. Vilarcangel is surrounded by a 65&rsquo000m2 big orange plantation, so lots of gorgeous outdoors with plenty of fruit and palm trees to get lost and only to be found if you so wish. The vicinity of the Jë£car river offers beautiful sceneries for photography and Land art. Our activity room is spacious and full of natural light, which makes it ideal for performances, dance, music and sound art. There is an Atelier/Studio for sculpture, painting and drawing. In the library you can find books in Spanish, English, German and of course time for brainstorming. The finca itself is a very inspirational space for installation art, filmmakers and storytellers.
Vilarcangel is also a place for networking, to make new friends and to be inspired and challenged by colleagues to try new things. We enjoy it very much when artists step out of their comfort zone and be open for experiment. We offer the opportunity to enjoy rural bohemian shabby chic Spanish Mediterranean life style&hellipfor just a while.
We believe that in order to create, all we need is the tools and the right environment. Our experience shows us that the channels for the dissemination of artists? work are changing. Likewise, new types of disciplines and concerns are emerging in artists who advocate creating new alternatives to the commercial circuits of art. Therefore, our intention is to contribute to train artists in new fields, such as art therapy, music therapy and, especially, art with social commitment. This latter type of art is self-managed through crowding and collaborative economy. In this way, the artist does not need the established circuits to be able to develop his work, since he is learning how to generate new methodologies not only of creation but also of management.
Our team was in 1996 co-creator of RED ARTE, the first network of independent spaces in the Spanish state for the diffusion of Contemporary Art, and in 1999 participated in Stockholm in the creation of FESARS, First European Seminar for Artist Run Spaces, the first European platform for the management and collaboration of independent spaces. From 1991 to 1999 we held Sociedad de Artistas Purgatori, an exhibition space in the city of Valencia managed through a cultural association and a collective of artists. From 2000 to 2011 we created and developed the Observatori – International Festival of Artistic Research in Valencia, which was held at the Principe Felipe Museum of Science, MUVIM (Valencian Museum of Illustration and Modernity) and the Royal Atarazanas of Valencia . In 2003 the Cultural Association Pronostica was created, which is in charge of managing Vilarcangel, and was created to manage the festival of the same name that was held at the MACE, Museum of Contemporary Art in Ibiza. Pronostica has been developing over the years in a sporadic way in El Claustre of the Church of Carmen in Mahon, Minorca, and has collaborated with Es Baluard, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palma. Currently Vilarcangel collaborates with artists and spaces from around the world who share our vision of creation as a tool to generate a more just, conscious and supportive world.
