UAI Residential Program facilitates two international studios and offers short term residency (duration from one to six months) for artists of various fields.
We welcome variety of projects with special focus on those that reinvent, enliven, and capture the unique character of Uzupis district and its people. We are especially interested in hosting Land Art projects amongst others. River Vilnele that flows besides the Art Incubator has always been a big part of the indentity of Art Incubator and has been an ispiration and background, art object for various art projects.
Individual studios are situated in the quirky bohemian neighbourhood of Uzupis brimming with arts and cultural activities. The studios are located in a newly-reconstructed historical building which consists of the project space Galera and residential premises in Uzupis street. Cozy studios consist of studio space, bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette, are functionally furnitured for the most comfortable work and equipped with free WiFi service.
During the residency artists receive the opportunity to live and work in studio, use the exhibition spaces and landscape of Uzupis within a supportive and inspiring art community.
Uzupis Art Incubator was established by a group of young initiative people more than 15 years ago with a goal of creating first art incubator in the Baltic States that gathers like-minded creative organisations and artists. Uzupis Art Incubator functions as a meeting place, space for cooperation, connection and inspiration.
UAI gave start to community movement &ndash Uzupis Republic. Here artists declared district as an independent Republic and now it seeks to represent the interests of local artist community by initiating various manifests, movements and activities. This self-proclaimed &ldquoRepublic&rdquo of Uzupis&rdquo has its own anthem, constitution, seven bridges, and its own guardian called The Bronze Angel of Uzupis. Many activities of UAI are very closely related to Uzupis district and Uzupis community &ndash artistic performances, local art projects, festivals, informal Uzupis information centre, creative workshops and many other events.
