TwoCentsPress Printmaking Arts in Tuscany

+39 324 6267339

TwoCentsPress is a residency for artists of different disciplines (printmakers in particular) who wish to work in an extraordinary natural setting in the quiet and the beauty of the Tuscan countryside.
TwoCentsPress residents are housed in independent apartments in the village of Serrazzano, southwest of Volterra, with full access to a professional printmaking workshop fully equipped for all intaglio techniques, a B&W darkroom and —in progress (summer 2019)— a letterpress workshop.

Residency Programme since: 2017
Description of Organisation:

TwoCentsPress residency was established by Franco Marinai (visual artist) and Anna K. Thorsdottir (architect) to provide artists of different disciplines with professional tools and support to advance their artistic practices in an extraordinary natural setting, in the Metal Hills in Tuscany, in the medieval village of Serrazzano.

We believe that artists can draw great benefits from immersion in a pristine natural environment – away from the distraction, the pollution and the noise of today’s urban scene – where they also have access to material resources of professional quality and educational support to implement and extend their practice.

We also believe that artists staying at TwoCentsPress can profit by being exposed to an ancient life style that seems like revolving around only the most elemental features of nature: earth, air, water, fire, wind, rain, the season etc. At the same time we are confident that the presence of artists visiting TwoCentsPress, as they bring diversity and a cosmopolitan outlook, has a positive impact on the fairly insular and mostly traditional local community of the area.

The focus of the TwoCentsPress residency is at the moment the art of printmaking.
Plans are underway to complete the conversion the old village oil-mill into a multifunctional facility that — with the recent addition of a Heidelberg Windmill machine and a standing-screw press— includes a letterpress and a bookbinding workshop.
