The Pickers Hut @ Glaziers Bay

The Pickers Hut @ Glaziers Bay is a studio/living space at Glaziers Bay, south of Tasmanian capital city, Hobart, in the picturesque Huon Valley.

The workspace is in a 4m x18m by 10m studio with a concrete floor, lots of natural light, lifting points for large sculpture and access to power tools and equipment. The studio incorporates a living space, including kitchen and sitting area, and a separate bathroom.

One of the sleeping quarters is located across the paddock in a 3m by 3m cottage that used to house pickers in the nearby apple orchards. A second cottage is adjacent to the studio and has two single bunks.

The property is close to vineyards and a river suitable for fishing, kayaking. The vibrant community of Cygnet is a 10-minute drive away and in 45 minutes you can reach Hobart, with its eclectic mix of cafes, shops, bars, galleries and the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA).

This self-funded residency is best suited to an independent person or couple who will be happy with a basic standard of accommodation and have their own transport, and who need little or no support other than a basic introduction, The studio space will be shared on occasions with Matt and possibly one other person.

Independence and the ability to adapt during the residency are the most important characteristics for visiting artists, (as Matt is often away or working on other projects).

Artists will need to make their own travel arrangements to The Pickers? Hut and supply their own food and art materials. Basic linen, crockery, cookware and cutlery are supplied.
