The Old School art residency was found in 2010 in Gorna Lipnitsa village, Veliko Tarnovo region, Bulgaria. The building of the residency was a school in the past. The mission of the residency is to bring art and artists back to nature and village way of life. Our idea is by gathering artists in a small Bulgarian place to give them the opportunity to find inspiration and collaborate with the local community. Artists are free to explore village life and they could make it an object of their artworks. Our aim is to support and provoke the creative ideas of the participating artists by providing time for solitude, work and interaction with other artists in a beautiful natural surroundings.

The residency provides workspace for the participating artists ?? 6 indoor workshops and photo studio, open air space ?? the yard of the school, film and concert salon. We provide accommodation for participants ?? rooms in the ex-kindergarten and guest houses in the village, as well.

From 2010 to 2018 the residency was held once a year ?? for 10 days during August. In 2019 the residency will be open to accept artists for longer sessions ?? from May to September.

We choose the artists by jury. The artists could apply for the following disciplines: Painting, Visual arts and Installations, Performance, Photography, Wall-painting, Music, Short films, Land-art.

Every year we organize exhibitions to present the works created by the participating artists. We believe that exhibiting the collected artworks is an essential part of the residency activities.

In 2010-2019 the residency has accepted more than 100 participants from 25 countries and the number of applications are over 700.
