Artist residency in Madrid with a Nordic focus (Finland in particular). The residency is open to artists of all disciplines, curators and researchers. Due to its location in a versatile neighbourhood of Madrid, it is also well-suited for social or communal projects. The residency activities are customized according to the residents’ wishes and interests.

Objectives include the creation and promotion of international cultural exchange. This is achieved through the residency programme, networking, events, co-productions and research.

Description of Organisation:

Hug Culture

– is a non-profit cultural association, whose purpose is the creation and promotion of international cultural exchange.

– runs a residency programme in Madrid, Spain, and also initiates and facilitates projects elsewhere.

– was founded by Miguel Angel Gilfer’s initiative in 2014, and is currently managed by him, Rafael Agudo, Toni Ledentsa and Anna Mertanen, with the occasional participation of Susana Nevado, Klaara Nieminen, Mari Nieves Vergara and Julia San Millan.

– works to realise its objectives through the residency programme, networking, events, co-productions and research. The resident artists and creatives are introduced to the vibrant Madrid art scene, and supported in relation to their interests.

– is familiar with many cultural and social institutions, associations, spaces and people. Therefore, we can help establish creative connections and collaborations between our residents and local entities in Madrid, and also internationally. We are passionate about fostering creativity, research, education and the production of culture and knowledge.
