The Horned Dorset Colony

The Horned Dorset Colony offers one-month residencies for visual artists, writers, translators, architecture designers and composers during the months of June and July, and September.2019.

Located in rural, upstate New York, HDC provides gracious accommodations, generous work spaces and delicious meals to artists chosen on the basis of work samples, recommendations and a description of the work intended. Residents are selected primarily on the basis of artistic merit, with consideration given to stylistic and geographic diversity. Applications are reviewed by an outside panel of professionals and the directors.

The fee for a one-month residency is $4,000 US. Scholarships may be available directly through HDC. Upon acceptance, a non-refundable $500 deposit will be required of all residents, regardless of financial support. Applications may be submitted anytime, but application deadlines for all 2019 sessions is February 22.

Anyone considering an application should begin by sending a brief “Letter of Introduction” by email to hdcolony@gmail.com. The email should include:

1. Your full name and current address

2. the session you wish to attend

3. a brief description of the work you wish to accomplish

4. Links to your website, recent reviews of your work, URL?s such as Vimeo, YouTube, or SoundCloud

IN MOST CASES, VERY LITTLE MORE WILL BE REQUIRED TO APPLY. The Director will then return your email with suggestions on how to proceed.
