The Textile Centre residency is located in Blönduós, northwest Iceland, and seeks to promote an atmosphere of creativity, experimentation and reflection for international artists and scholars working inside the textile field. Providing a working environment that supports the artistic or research process with equipment specific for textiles, we hope to give you uninterrupted time for creative exploration.
Founded in 2005, the Textile Center first opened its doors to artists and scholars in residence in 2013. Blönduós is the centre of an agricultural community which is renowned for sheep farming, wool, and a rich textile history. There is a wool washery and Textile Museum in town. The residency itself is located in a beautiful historic building, Kvennaskolinn, a former Women’s College overlooking the glacial river Blanda and the sea.

The Textile Center´s goal is to promote Icelandic and international textiles through varied initiatives within the textile field of art and design. The Center provides students, scholars and artists with working spaces to conduct their research and study-trips within textiles and to function as an international educational meeting point to hold seminars, counsels and classes on textiles.
At present, the Center does not run classes or facilitated educational programs. Artists and researchers are able to base their work, research, study, or projects from our facilities and accommodations.
