The Lightning Ridge Residency was a miners camp rendered in ironstone circa 1980. Ironstone was used as a building material in Lightning Ridge, NSW Australia. Examples of this stone work can be seen at tourist attractions such as Amigos Castle and the The Ridge Castle in the Red Car Door district.
The Residency is located in the Opal Fields. The interior is open plan with two open bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom is a double with desk, and the other has one bunk bed and a single bed. The Residency will comfortably sleep 4 people.
The Studio is located outside and was converted from an outdoor dining room. The room is approx 3m x 3m and has mesh as windows which creates ideal ventilation for painting and drying.
The Residency is “off the grid” and utilises solar energy for powering electricity, gas for cooking and hot water. Water is supplied from two onsite tanks.
