Description of Organisation:

Established in 1964, Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre is a not-for-profit corporation with the mandate to promote and maintain opportunities and facilities for the study, practice and appreciation of the arts, handcraft, nature and conservation.  Our mission is to deliver high calibre, multi-cultural and explorative exhibits and programs, while integrating the arts with our natural environment to enrich, challenge and inspire the peoples of our community.

SSANC has a long standing connection with many well known Canadian artists including Robert Bateman, Fred Ross, Tom Smith and many others.  Master Printmaker Robert Van De Peer has been instrumental in designing our completely  non-toxic print studio. We provide and promote a safe, stable, respectful and inclusive location and atmosphere for creative development and innovative learning, for all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

We maintain two high quality display galleries; print, ceramic, metal and painting studios; garden; and small nature park.  SSANC delivers free arts education to local and regional schools through the school year, outreach to rural and remote areas, summer camps and workshops in partnership with, the Huntsman Marine Science Centre, Kingsbrae Gardens and many others.  We also run programs for seniors, many free – and arts and nature programming open to any other members of our community.

Our galleries feature work from local and international artists, including newly emerging, indigenous, retrospectives, community groups such as LGBTQ+ and Charlotte County Mental Health.  We have introduced the payment of Carfac fees and provide mentoring and other supports for practicing artists.  SSANC currently runs two artist in residence programs.
