Name of Residency: Sector04 – Programs in Residency

Sector 04 is a cultural project located in the Refinery District in the city of Rosario whose purpose is to focus on issues related to sustainability, urbanism and art. The project seeks to create a space for the citizen to reflect on their relationship with the environment.

Located in the urban development that has grown more rapidly in recent years, the project goal is to highlight the relationship of citizens with their context from various points of view, engaging local, national and international visual artists in this process. They will work together in a transdisciplinary manner with creatives from the sciences, architecture, urbanism, journalism and sociology.

The main offer is the use of the residency space in the course of the project. Programs referred to the aforementioned problems will be launched throughout the year, offering accommodation to international participants, as it has space to host up to two people.

On the other hand, a work space where seminars, study and research groups, open studios, advances revision -among others- can be developed is expected.

It should be noted that there are currently no other projects of International Cultural Residences in the city.

Central themes:

Sustainability and environment

In developing cities like ours sustainability is constantly in jeopardy. Modern cities, metropolises -contrary to what happens in nature or self-supplied rural residences- require constant and external supplies necessary for them. However, this generates toxic processes which are detrimental for the well-being of residents, their context and the link between these two. In this aspect, we want to generate reflective thinking, developed in a creative process.

Town planning

Sector 04 is directed towards the investigation of urban identity. Town planning will be understood as a group of heterogeneous characteristics, problems and challenges interacting together in the same space [the city]. Latin American cities, especially in Argentina, have grown not only in size but also in the number of inhabitants due to internal and external migration.
The growth has not always been steady, nonetheless, presenting new daily challenges for the residents of the city and its authorities. The residency programs will address the following themes: the concept of ´modern city´ as a starting point for proposals and hypothesis; diagnosis, study and consideration on how the citizens interact with their city, taking into account the citizens’ compromise with the existing problems.

This project will be highly responsive to urban activists.

Call for projects

Open call for submissions from: Visual artists, Curators,
Researchers, Journalists, Film makers,
Activists – Change Makers

Creatives, inspired by urban movements, and activists concerned with sustainable technologies that find public space as a means for deep thinking about environmental protection and ecology, as well as civic and cultural education, social problems and cultural policies. They must have an active role in the search for good practices and solutions for modern cities.

We will also receive action plans that link the mentioned topics with the different lines of work to be developed in our space.
