Name of Residency: RaumArs ry – Rauman taiteilijavierasohjelma

Artists applying to a residency are expected to present a project plan for a community/collaborative/participatory art practise, public/social art project or an environmental project, which will be realized during the residency. The main selection criteria will be the artists’ motivation to work in collaboration with local people, the proposal and the quality of previous art. Many of the projects are carried out with children or youth, but artists actualize the project according to their wishes and collaborate with any group. The applicant doesn’t have to have previous teaching experience, but need to prove to be able to carry out the project.

RaumArs offeres accommodation in the heart of Old Rauma, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In a year the board of directors chooses 2–4 community/stipend artists to whom RaumArs gives a room free of charge, some materials and administrative help in producing the accepted proposal for community/participatory art projects. Other chosen artists work independently and pay a small monthly fee. All artists pay travelling, art transporting and living costs themselves.

English (Finnish/Swedish) will be the working language.

Application time once a year in spring. RaumArs can take one artist (including curators), artist couple, a group or a family.

RaumArs offers accommodation in a wooden Old Rauma house. The apartment of 82 sqm has 3 rooms and a kitchen. Downstairs kitchen, bedroom and wc. Upstairs lobby, bedroom, shower-wc. You can be living alone, with your mate/partner or with other artists 1-4 at a same time.

No studio or working space, because most of the workshops happen at schools or similar spaces. Due to this e.g. for the dancers an alternative dance project is recommended. In some cases artist can negotiate a workshop space from our partners.

Please read DETAILDED INFORMATION ON RAUMARS WEB SITE. Calls for specific projects/months change each year.
