The Raghurajpur International Art/Craft Exchange (RIA/CE) is an opportunity for contemporary/conceptual artists to exchange ideas and skills with the traditional artisans of Orissa, India.
During the 5-week exchange, artists from around the world live, learn and create with master artists in this Heritage Village. Workshops are offered in palm leaf carving, stone and wood carving, pata chitra and tassar painting, paper mach?? mask making, ganjapa playing card making, dhorka metal casting and cow dung toy making as well as Gotipua, Odishi, and Naga dancing, traditional theatre, harmonium and sitar.
This knowledge and these traditional skills can then be incorporated into contemporary artwork. In exchange, the international artists share their ideas about contemporary art with the villagers, who can incorporate these ideas into their traditional art.
RIA/CE is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the creative lives of artists and villagers in Orissa, India, as well as visiting artists from around the world through the exchange of artistic skills, culture and friendship.
