Want to Come Sail with Us for a While?

Mothership NYC is a combined live-work space and presentation arena for international artists across multiple disciplines in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. Our converted industrial loft has three berths for permanent crew members (all 30+ years-old female creatives + a ship’s cat named Pusillanimous), as well as two spaces for shorter-term visitors (yes, guys are welcome, too):

1) Live-Work Space (aka Screw Room), available to rotating Artists-in-Residence (known onboard as our Sea Artists) for periods between 1 to 3 months.
2) Guestroom (aka Cabin), available to visiting creatives for periods between 1 to 4 weeks.

Our residencies support contemporary visual art practices and trans-disciplinary projects (including performance and performing arts, music, writing and curatorial proposals) promoting exchange, debate, experimentation and collaborative work. We host different types of residencies: Production | Exploration | Micro-Residency | Presentation. Artists-in-residence work on a project and show results or do their research without a fixed outcome.

Residency Programming:
~  For our monthly salons, we invite fellow artists and other creatives/cultural workers for an open-air art party/intimate indoor gathering where you can present your work to a very receptive audience of local artist peers and other arts professionals and appreciators
~  We occasionally host artists’ dinners for our international and NYC-based creative colleagues
~ During the warm months, we use our huge roof deck as an outdoor stage for creative productions across several disciplines
~ You can organize open studio events during your stay, including participation in the neighborhood-wide extravaganza,
~ Collaborative productions can potentially also be hosted on one of our sister platforms, Last Frontier NYC and/or the KWBS rooftop stage (

Residency Programme since: 2015
Description of Organisation:

Mothership NYC is a combined live-work space and presentation arena for international artists across multiple disciplines in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, NYC. Our mission is to support and promote artists at all career levels through residencies, public shows and collaborative opportunities build sustainable transnational artist networks and help retain creative forces in New York City.

Our History:
Born out of the needs of emerging artists who come to New York City to take part in the cultural nexus, Mothership NYC was founded in 2005. With a huge roof deck serving as an outdoor stage, our community of artist peers gradually and organically evolved into a destination for art events and performances of all kinds, as well as lively dinner parties and improvised salons uniting creatives from many disciplines. The addition of an extra live-work space in late 2016 provided an impetus to professionalize our residency program. Our international artists-in-residence are now selected based on merits as well as on their commitment to collectivism. We aim to host between 6 to 12 official artists-in-residence per year for periods from 1 to 3 months, as well as several short-term visiting creatives.

Today, our salons occur on a regular monthly schedule: On the 2nd Tuesday of every month, Mothership artists share the floor with local peers for presentations of their work, creative exchanges and good cheer. Additionally, our residents produce indoor and outdoor public events at a prolific pace, both onboard the Mothership and on our sister platform Last Frontier NYC.
