Makers Circle inspires and empowers photographers and makers through retreats, residencies, workshops, and salons. Located in Southern Appalachia, 30 minutes from Asheville NC, artists come here to experience the beauty and power of place while being supported within the context of a small, intimate, supportive community.
Our residencies are open to photographers, and makers at all skill levels looking to incubate, grow or launch a personal body of work or a creative community project.
While Makers Circle is open to all visual artists and new media practitioners, our residencies are strongly focused on the needs of photographers and mixed-media artists and makers. Created to fill the need for more opportunities for photographers and mixed-media artists, Makers Circle has fully equipped darkrooms for silver and alternative processes, an expansive digital studio, as well as indoor and outdoor spaces for messy projects.
Makers Circle is directed by a team of devoted photographers, makers, and community organizers who are passionate about the creative process. What makes us unique? The care, attention, guidance, and support we offer photographers and makers of all levels.
Makers Circle is an innovative arts organization that designs and implements community-based art projects in partnership with non-arts organizations. We have a deep passion for cross-sector collaboration and believe that the fastest and most sustainable way to create positive, lasting and systemic change is through the creative and cooperative sharing of resources and community wisdom.
Makers Circle passionately believes in the power of art, and the creative process to transform lives and communities. Supporting artists is at the center of our mission.
