Name of Residency: ‘Living in the Garden’

For a creative artist, the inspirational value of an actively focused retreat in a remote and beautiful location cannot be underestimated.

Surrounded by open hillsides with long sea views, no streetlights, close neighbors or noisy traffic, the primary aim of our residency is to provide an ideal environment for those artists who wish for a distraction free space in a remote and natural environment, where they can comfortably relax into a focused state of mind without the downside of feeling lonely and isolated or overly vulnerable.

A resident artist is provided with a comfortable and spacious house, well scaled to the particular needs of a creative individual, with a properly equipped kitchen, a good bed and a comfortable studio space. Each house is set in its own part of the garden and attached shady terraces make for ideal outdoor workspaces.

Although strict privacy is assured for those who so require, we are aware that complete solitude is not always desirable and it is our role as hosts to provide a practical and social safety net.

We are the permanent resident artists, living in the garden, engaged in our own particular artwork and we like to share our space with like minded creative people.

We provide shopping trips and have a general eye and ear to all practical needs and, although our residency is based on the concept of personal creative space, we are not in the least antisocial and do not think of our project in a strictly ‘monastic’ sense. Artists are of course free to move about the property and fraternise as they wish, simply it is understood that everyone sets their own boundaries and it is o.k to keep to oneself if that is what one wishes.
