A residency at Shawbrook is an opportunity to pause, reflect, rejuvenate creative energies in a unique, rural environment. A Shawbrook residency is low-tech, low-key. Artists at any stage of their career can apply. We encourage artists to apply for projects that will be enhanced and enriched by our rural location and natural environment.
Shawbrook awards a number of residencies throughout the year through an OPEN CALL to International dance artists dance companies and artists working on dance-related projects.
The Open Call is announced late Autumn on our website and social media platforms. We also support paying residencies outside of our open call, subject to availability.
Residencies run from a Sunday to a Friday. Applications for the OPEN CALL are made through completing an online form and sending a brief proposal of your project. The directors and board members will make a selection. Artists at any stage of their career can apply.
Shawbrook provides 3 studios, 2 performance spaces indoor and outdoor, an outdoor fire seated area, access to forest, meditation room, Summer House, Sauna, laundry, catering if requested, accommodation in a fully equipped apartment, bedsit, dormitory that sleeps 5 and forest cabins. The Directors invite artists-in-residence to share a fire night and meal on Thursday evenings, and if they wish to share their work before departure on Friday.
Travel, subsistence or living expenses are not included. Some residents received funding from home / partnering organisations and some a self-funded.
These residencies should be seen as a retreat and not depending on being “connected”.
