Artist residency  covers a program based on the personal project proposal presented by the artist and consist of sojourning from 7 to 90 days .
We operate all year-round welcoming artists of all ages and nationalities. Resident artists are at various stages in their careers and work in all media.
The centre offers the opportunity to work alone, or together with other creative people from other countries, developing and interchanging concise ideas on contemporary art and culture.
Our facilities are well equipped for exhibitions, open studios, lectures, conferences, seminars, workshops, video and film projection. We publish a yearbook called “The Artistic Time” in order to share the work of all our resident artists with our network.

La Macina di San Cresci closely collaborates with University of Florence, Tuscany Region, Municipality of Greve in Chianti and Tuscany Film Commission to the realization of artistic projects.

Residency Programme since: 2008
Description of Organisation:

La Macina di San Cresci is an open laboratory for artistic projects, a retreat, a place of contemplation and creativity, founded by two lifelong art lovers skilled in design and architecture, Duccio Trassinelli and Demetria Verduci. We believe art and offer artists an opportunity to work in a social environment that is quite different from the urban milieu that is the usual context of production and distribution of the contemporary arts. This new experience provides artists with a major stimulus to experiment with new ideas, approaches and modes of production, encouraging artists to rethink and renegotiate their role in such unfamiliar social contexts. Our mission is to encourage the mobility of artists and to develop a cultural exchange; As we are in the field of art, we have invested in La Macina to make it a place to accommodate and imagine new forms of dialogue within the context of art and culture. The residency is located in the historic complex of the Pieve di San Cresci, X sec. the oldest in the Chianti area; it began to be mentioned in 948. We have restored this architectural complex for long fifteen years and for us it was like a dream to revive such an extraordinary building.
