The purpose of the Association is to promote artist expression, by inviting both Portuguese and international artists or curators to (re)discover the disciplines covered by this art form and to promote all aspects of the city of Lisbon, especially as regards its culture, architecture, history and society (among other areas).

The Association is rooted within the local community but is looking to expand internationally. It seeks to share and exchange ideas with people from both Lisbon and the rest of the world and exhibits contemporary art created by artists in residence.

The Association focuses not only on strengthening social and cultural links, but also on strengthening interactions with the international art world in order to enable resident artists to carry out new projects and to raise awareness of their work.

One of the Association?s main purposes is to provide accommodation for both Portuguese and international plastic artists or curators by offering them a place of residence in Lisbon.

Residency Programme since: N/A
Description of Organisation:

Portuguese and international residents are welcomed at La Junqueira trough the invitation of St_Ñ_phane Mulliez, the founder of the residency. She is supported by professionals {artists, curators and art critics, mostly Portuguese} recognized for their skills and international networks.

Every year, two visual or plastic artists or curators will be invited to join the Artist Residency for a period of three months each. Residency periods starts in March and September each year.

The artists or curators selected for the Artist Residency may be from Portugal or abroad. No experience is necessary and there is no age limit or restriction on artistic practice. The artists or curators selected will have the opportunity to benefit from a new experience in Lisbon and, in this way, create works within the framework of the dialogue maintained with the city of Lisbon.

The project and the previous work of the candidate for the Artist’s Residency must be described in the La Junqueira Residency application form with a detailed CV, a PDF document of two (2) to ten (10) pages maximum, written in French, Portuguese or English, explaining and illustrating the past work, the topics covered and if possible the nature of the work that the candidate wishes to achieve during his stay at the residence.
