The Pfaelzer Hof residency programme is open to emerging and established writers and artists. During the months of April to October one to six writers and/or artists may be in residence. Some of the time other visitors may also be staying at the Pfaelzer Hof.
We endeavour to create opportunities for residents to meet, discuss and present work to each other and to members of the public. Public readings and exhibitions can be arranged at the Pfaelzer Hof or at other interesting locations in the town.
The Pfaelzer Hof provides writers and artists with spacious accommodation in one of its three apartments and the house has a lovely outdoor terrace, which residents share. The house has stunning views of the town, castle and surrounding woodland. The apartments all have large windows and excellent natural light.
The Open Call residency fee is 1400 Euros for 4 weeks. Work exchange residencies and other specific curated residencies are announced from time to time.

The Pfaelzer Hof is an artist-led town and cultural development project, breathing new life into a quarter of Idar-Oberstein in the Rhineland-Palatine region of Germany. The Pfaelzer Hof is a beautiful old hotel which was rescued, with the help of public funding, from immanent demolition and renovated in 2010.
The town of Idar-Oberstein has an interesting history as a centre for gem stone trade and jewellery manufacturing, a specialised tradition and expertise that continues today. The town has contrasting elements of wealth and urban decay, giving it an edge, which some have compared to Berlin before the wall came down.
For the past few years our three spacious apartments and exhibition space have attracted international visitors, including experts in gemology and jewellery design. In 2013 our first artist in residence was Lydia Corbett (Sylvette David), former Picasso model and a family friend.
The Pfaelzer Hof is now seeking to develop a contemporary, curated programme of artists and writers in residency. We aim to be the cutting edge arts hub in Idar-Oberstein, infusing the town with new energy and ideas. We are committed to developing arts practices and offer curatorial support, engaging in critical and reflective dialogue with our artists and audiences.
