Name of Residency: Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture


The residency program of the Ionion Center is inviting high level participations, embracing the Educational – Academic Research sectors through the Arts and Sciences. It is addressing artistic, creative,educational, academic advancement and research requirements of individual artists,scientists,students, researchers, higher education institutions, organizations,  e.t.c.
Available under formal enrolment are residential areas, educational areas, exhibition/presentation areas , administrative support & international platforms for Global connectivity.

The location of the Institution, in five minutes distance from the Island Kefalonia’s International airport ,the low prices in air tickets ( based on formal agreements of the Island with the air companies) and the direct air connection to the European, Medirerranean and Arab Countries  helps all the interested factors (as students, professors, reporters, art lovers, in arts and sciences involved factors and institutions) to have direct access to the Center.
Additionally the natural beauty and diversity of the island, the mild weather, the warm calm seas and beaches, the creative atmosphere, the cultural wealth & the historical past of the ”Homeric Island” re-discovered in every step,the friendly and supportive Community  are factors inspiring and attracting.
The Center is offering to the participants of the residency program the opportunity of sharing knowledge and practice into the frame of its International Academic Community.

Aims : The exchange of Knowledge , Creation , Artistic expertise ,innovative practices and performance and the establishment of a legacy advancing a global society, focusing on the improvement and respect of the humanitarian values, inherited through the Civilization, are included in the basic aims of the residency program. It is a program establishing bridges, toward connecting the contemporary International Art- Sciences Forums and Greece/Kefalonia with  the past and the future world.

Duration of the residency

There is no limit, starting from two weeks minimum, extended to one year. Acceptable are short or long term residencies, subjected to the early enrolment and availability of the space.


Eligible are All disciplines and interdisciplinary projects in Arts, Sciences and Technologies, Education and Research, included Environmental projects, Literary Arts , Performing Arts and Music, Applied Arts, Visual Arts , New Media. Creative activities and formally submitted proposals in Arts, Research and Education are enrolled into the program.

Work equipment

Professional spaces and work-studios are available : The Theater of the Center and the Studio and Exhibition Hall are offered fully equipped with professional projection- lighting- sound systems. The above spaces are available for educational use or creation and also for presentation /exhibition for personal or group/institutional programs.

Tables, easels , basic equipment are fully available and the use of the above spaces will be shared or private,  depend on the project and the agreement.
Additionally for the needs of the creative process( education ,classes or personal projects) sites of special interest around the island will be offered as work spaces for shooting- filming and /or performance and exhibition spaces[such as archaeological sites, historical buildings, ancient villages e.t.c]
The Ionion Center network is operating under a very well organized administration, toward keeping a top level for its activities and network, considering every artist, scientist, academic, educator or Institution as special case, offering all the opportunities to be realized something  exceptional.
Along with the personal assistance and support,the Center is working beyond the material needs of the artists, helping them to realise advanced projects. This is a process demanding to : a. Connect them with the local community in the fields of their specific work and activities [artists, researchers, scientists, archaeologists, architects, authors, educators and so on].
b. To connect them through an international network with the Center Academic team and the  academic programs of the collaborating institutions/universities. Under this focus specific programs are transformed into international projects

Grants Policy

All the projects taking place into the residency program are eligible for the Grants of the year.
Grants 1000 up to 30.000 euro for the regular annual residency program are available.

Grants 2000 up to 50.000 euro for the annual International Forum SEA(S) are available.

All the participants and the projects (realized ) into the frame of the residency program or to the International Forum are eligible for the grants announced . Selection is based on the compliance of the project to the character of the program,with special attention to the innovation , the high quality,the effect on the Artistic development of the Island and its impact for the  local and global Arts Community.

Evaluation and Selection Committee is the Curatorial Team and Members of the Academic and Administrative Team of the Ionion Center .

Studio/ Workspaces

The entire Ionion Center building complex is designed to address activities related to high performance artistic , scientific and educational needs. Personal projects ,group projects, exhibitions, workshops, lectures, presentations, conferences, symposia, semester or year abroad projects, summer and field studies on arts and sciences, educational trips are offered specific attention and support.

Spaces for educational needs, art creation and theory for more than 100 persons are available as follow:

For Visual Arts : Two equipped studios with day and electric light, to host workshops, open studios and related activities Teaching rooms fully equipped for 15 to 25 persons.

For exhibitions : Two exhibition halls of 100 and 120 square meters. For extensive exhibitions : The entire building inside and outside is a venue for exhibitions for all disciplines. Also the collaboration of the Center with the Local Authority and the role of the Center as Cultural Ambassador of the Ionian Islands, is ensuring the most exceptional exhibition spaces in use of the residents( such as historical buildings, the Medieval Castle area, archaeological sites e.t.c)

For Performing Arts, Literary Arts, Music and Dance: Theater, 100 seats, 80square meters stage, actors preparation and residence area, professional light, projections and sound systems, to host: Theater education, theater rehearsals, performances, books and scientific works presentations, music education, chorals, concerts, dance education and performances.

Also available :high speed wireless internet, technical support, secretarial and administrative support and assistance, 24 hours supervising personnel and, according the case by case needs and the events on program, technical, personal or other assistance for individual artists, faculty members, study directors, students, schools, colleges.

The Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture operates in Global environment in the fields of Higher Education, Arts, Sciences & Research.

It is located in the village Metaxata of Livatho ,island Kefalonia, Greece.
