Name of Residency: IaRex l’Atelier

This program is designed for the professional to leisure artists to come to France to live and work in a fully equipped, significantly subsidized, ceramic studio. All arts are welcome. Applicants will need to have a statement of intent, as it is my goal to help each personhave a unique and wonderful creative experience. Each resident has their own key and are required to be self directed.

Why exchange?? Exchange is the central theme to this program. Exchange in conversation, learning process, exchange with another culture, and cultures, other artists, and the internal exchange that happens as we develop our artwork. This is an opportunity to work with other artists, exchange ideas, develop new relationships, network, be open to new influences, experiment, and develop your art. As a group experience, there is greater opportunity for creating memories, exchanging techniques, sharing inspirations, and the development of relationships.

Residency Programme since: 2018
Description of Organisation:

The organization is privately funded and designed for artists to work, and for teachers to teach.

The program is for artists who have an established working process. I am available to help each person become settled and established, buy materials and navigate the area. Workshops and private lessons can be arranged at convenience. The artist who is seeking inspiration through immersion, and perhaps at a transitional point in their work, or career, would benefit tremendously by choosing this residency. The area is safe, full of convenience, pleasant accommodations, cultural experience opportunities and access to nature, mountains (Alpes Maritimes) and sea.

The residency is flexible in design. After years of teaching in various communities, centers of higher education and as an ED of a ceramic center, I have listened to many students and teachers. Based on my experiences in travel, I wanted to create a center where people can come and create, and have a home base in the studio, while they travel, live and explore the area at their leisure. The program is oriented toward long term stays, and cultural immersion allows creating and exploring at ones individual pace.

The studio is in the town of Saint-Raphael is next to the l’Esterel mountains. It is situated on the Mediterranean, in the Var area of France. Small villages, museums, markets, nature, hiking, biking, swimming as well as fine dining are easily accessible. Travel from the area is easy as it is only 1 hour from the airport in Nice. There are 2 major ceramic suppliers in the area in addition to other art stores for materials.

The residency program is from September to June, when housing is plentiful, available and reasonable. This is a high tourist area for the summer months. Staying through the summer months, is available. The studio is beautiful with great light and tranquility., being less than 1 minutes from a main road.

Who am I??? I am an artist, teacher and educator. I have created this program and space with the help of many people, with the inspiration, hope and dream of artists coming here to exchange with each other, in the safety of studio setting, that will be their home for a period of time. My goal as an artist and teacher, is to create a environment where people can explore in an open and relaxed environment.
