“IASI ART RESIDENCY – I.A.R. is based in Iasi town, Romania and it is focused on an intercultural exchange with international artists from painting area. My name is Ioana Palamar and I am Assistant Lecturer at “George Enescu” National University of Arts and the organiser of this art residency. Together with my colleagues: Lecturer Zamfira Birzu, Lecturer Cristian Ungureanu, Art critic Maria Bilasevschi and the volunteer students: Karina Cargo, Cezara Moraru and Smaranda Vîrnă will kindly support “IASI ART RESIDENCY – I.A.R. “
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ART RESIDENCY PROGRAM: “IASI ART RESIDENCY – I.A.R. is based in Iasi, Romania and functions within “George Enescu” National University of Arts.
AIM OF ART RESIDENCY PROGRAM: The main aim of “IASI ART RESIDENCY – I.A.R.” is to create various and complex events in Iasi, a cultural town with a lots of inspiration sources, to meet the students from “George Enescu” National University of Arts and the local artists, in order to exchange ideas and to share experiences with them as for a future possible collaboration.
WELCOMING: The artists will be waited At the airport by the organiser of this residency, they will be hosted either in a students hostel or in a flat, depending on the availability of accommodation spaces, and afterwards they will be presented the studios of the university, the teachers and the students.
ACCOMMODATION: The accommodation room is private, but they might share the bathroom and the kitchen with the others.
FOOD: The artists can eat either at “Saint Nicholas” Cafeteria which belongs to “Metropolitan Cathedral” or at “Titu Maiorescu” Cafeteria which belongs to “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University. They are both located in the central area.
WORKING FACILITIES: The artists-in-residence will work in the studios of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, together with the other students. They have access to the library of our faculty, where they can use our computers and read the available art books.
WORKING SCHEDULE: The artists-in-residence will have totally freedom to take their time in order to create their art project, there is no daily schedule. The organiser of the residency together with the volunteer students will take care of their needs, will guide them in town and will accompany them to some important cultural events from the town, but only when they have free time. That’s why, an important aspect is that the artists-in-residence must understand that sometimes they have to manage on their own.
EXHIBITION SPACE: The artists-in-residence will have the opportunity to exhibit in “Aparte” Gallery which belongs to the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, or in another local gallery. It is very important for them to take into account that the exhibition spaces are generally booked one year before and the artists in residence must understand that they will exhibit in accordance to the availability of an exhibition space from Iasi.
COSTS: The artists-in-residency must pay for: their round trip flight ticket, for accommodation, for a part of their art materials and for food.The University will cover only a part of the art materials for the artists-in-residence. If necessary, the artists will buy other art materials from the local art supplies. The studios are for free.
