Hvitahus in Iceland is a residency for artists including apartment and a good working studio with a double-height. Located by the door of Snæfellsnes national park and the famous Glacier Snæfellsjokull, that Jules Verne wrote about in his famous novel A Journey to the Center of the Earth. Hvitahus is the only remaining building from the old Krossavik harbour, surrounded by astonishing landscapes, special sea biosphere and bird life.
Originally an ice storage (ishus) the Hvitahus as called by the locals, has been recently renovated preserving its original characteristics and structure.
The restored 160 square meter building includes now a full equipped residency floor with a bedroom, toilet, kitchen and living room, a 30m2 double-height studio / exhibition hall and gallery facilities. The house can accommodate 2-4 people.
Conceived now as a place for art creation, special windows with magnificent views to the shore line and the Snæfellsjokull glacier have been installed all through the house in both walls and roof, allowing daylight in every room.
