Winter/Spring January-May 2020 artist residency for individuals and small groups. Self-directed, with some planned events. 2 or 4 week stays. See special February program below.
February 2020 “A Conversation with the Landscape” for 10-12 people with planned events, group show, excursions included in schedule. 1 Full Month stay.
Primarily, our artists use this time away from their day-to-day lives to work on their own project(s), choosing to join in with others as time and energy allows. Although each participant has their own individual suite and access to private hot mineral baths, there are many opportunities to connect with others, as our retreat site is situated in the heart of the Hot Springs district–balancing quiet, contemplative time away from our busy lives with social time in the many gathering places close by…as well as in our shared studio. Throughout the year, we provide creative time without a lot of interruption, limiting the number of our participants so that each artists can focus and create during this special time in the desert.
There is, however, one month during the year when we accept a larger group of applicants (approximately 10 artists are accepted into this month’s program). During the month of February (Feb 1-29, 2020) we gather often for social and creative get-togethers, participate in a group exhibition, share meals once in awhile, and have a fun and engaging Art Share where we get the chance to learn about each other’s art, inspiration and methods in a very positive and supportive atmosphere. Sometimes we feel the need to spend time alone with our art, and other times we enjoy the camaraderie of other artists with whom we may connect. February with Art&Soul is a time for both!
Winter/Spring 2020 Hot Springs Artist Residency New Mexico, U.S.A.
We at Art&Soul offer a variety of artistic opportunities for individuals, small groups (fewer than 5 participants), and one larger group artist retreat (10+ participants) all year long for those who are seeking time and space to create in the calm, quiet desert.
Our residency is located in the heart of the Hot Springs District in the eclectic and historic town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico in the Southwest region of the United States. T or C (as the locals call this town) is situated along the beautiful Rio Grande surrounded by incredible natural Hot Springs. Each participant is housed in one’s (or couples, partners) own private Suite with open access to private Hot Mineral Baths, a secluded Courtyard, shared studio space…and clear skies where you can breathe, slow down, and focus.
We are in the southern part of the state, approximately a 2 hour drive south from Albuquerque, NM and also about the same distance northwest from El Paso, TX. Both cities have large, international airports. Artists are required to provide their own transportation–to, during, and from–the retreat site. There is so much to see and experience in the beautiful southwest, and this is not possible without one’s own vehicle. Most of our artists bring their own cars, others rent one for the duration. There are several car rental agencies in both Albuquerque and El Paso.
During the Winter and Spring, from January to May, we offer individual and small group/partner retreats. One exception is during the month of February, when we offer a larger group experience (10-12 artist participants) in a somewhat more “structured” residency program for a full month.
