Since 1993 the Cultural Foundation of Hesse (Hessische Kulturstiftung) has been providing a scholarship programme of high renown for visual artists who were born in Hesse, have a permanent residence here or hold a diploma from a Hessian art academy. These scholarships are awarded every two years as free travel grants or as a 12 months residence in one of the foundation’s studios in London, Paris or New York.
Both the studio grants and the freely disposable travel grants from the Hessische Kulturstiftung are endowed with 20,500 Euros each. The stipendiaries are selected by a jury of five from across the Federal Republic of Germany, who are working as freelance curators, in art associations, museums or academies.
The Cultural Foundation of Hesse (Hessische Kulturstiftung) is dedicated to the promotion and conservation of arts and culture in the Federal State of Hesse. Its main task is to support museums and public art collections, libraries and archives through the acquisition and the conservation of distinguished works of art, selected objects and entire art collections. The foundation may also foster issues of cultural heritage and documentaries thereof as well as various forms of the presentation of art and history. Beyond, Hessische Kulturstiftung serves particular tasks for the promotion of upcoming artists.
