The residency process starts with the selection of artists, curators, writers, resrachers and theoreticians, after their official application to the programme.
halka art project is located in Moda district of Kadıköy / İstanbul. The residency period depends upon the requests of the project and possibilities from 3 weeks to 3 months. The aim of the Programme is to provide a centre of concentration, collaboration and/or retreat for the artists, curators, writers and theoreticians from various disciplines in order to create and develop their projects.

The programme supports guest artists in creating an artistic project or reseach in every step from artist assitance to curatorial support, from advertising to hosting events. Finding connections from local and international circles, sharing ideas and exchanging experiences are considered very valuable. halka art project stands for the free circulation of artists around the world.

The Residency Programme targets to be more than an import or export of culture, and is willing to operate as a facilitator and a project partner in the artistic realm. It is widely open to collaborations, development of projects in the curatorial sense of its residents. halka organizes exhibitions, open talks, artist meetings, workshops, studio activities and presentations with its guest artists.

halka art project is a self sustaining, independent organisation based in Istanbul which focuses on the production, discourse and presentation of contemporary art and culture without depending on any institutional or corporate sponsorship.

halka focuses on the production, discourse and presentation of contemporary art and culture with interest and commitment to community, environment and education. It is a gathering place, a dialogue and a meeting platform.

(in your local currency): As an artist-run space initiated by two academics working in the fields of contemporary art and culture, halka art project values its independence from corporate or institutional sponsorships. Since the system in Turkey usually favors private sponsorship and subsidized art is very limited if there is any for those who wishes to keep its autonomy, halka art project cannot give any financial assistance for the time being to its residents.However, halka gives primary importance to the usage of all other assets (human, intellectual, technical and spatial) in favour of the artist projects conducted in the residency. They vary from personal assistance to artists,curating, production facilities and promotional activities to allocating halka art/ gallery as an exhibition space.
