gullkistan@gullkistan.is

Gullkistan is an artist run residency for creative people, artists and scholars of any profession.

We welcome individuals, families and groups who wish to work on their projects in peaceful surroundings near to nature.

The residency is located on the edge of the Laugarvatn village which is in rural South Iceland. It is between a lake and a mountain with a view of (and in a safe distance from) the Hekla volcano. In the village there are 200 inhabitants plus students of schools of all levels. There are sports facilities, an outdoor pool, spa, restaurants, supermarket, hikes etc.  Laugarvatn is 70 km east of Reykjavík and 40 km north of Selfoss, the center for South Iceland services, accessible all year round.

Accommodation is provided in six single and double rooms in two buildings, one of which also houses the shared workspace and laundry room. Both houses have a kitchen and bathrooms. Wifi is good. Family accommodation can sometimes be arranged.

We do our best to run the residency as we would like a residency to be run. A place where each individual has the chance to work on his own ideas in a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere in beautiful surroundings and nature with everything it provides.

Fees for one month:

850 € Small single room
950 € Single room
1150 € Double room for one person
1450 € Double room for two persons
Apartments for families can sometimes be arranged and the fee may vary.

Artists work on their own things. Sometimes there are possibilities of open studios, student visits or other interaction with the community. Residents are not obliged to take part.

Minimum stay is usually one month although sometimes off the summer months we can be more flexible.

Please fill out the application form on our website, gullkistan.is.
