Green Hill Artist Retreat is a destination retreat offering literary, visual and performing artists time and space to work in a natural environment
away from the distractions of hectic daily life. Artists are supported thorough comfortable simple lodging, access to studio space (appropriate to medium) and fresh wholesome meals prepared by our in house chef . Studios include: a fully equipped printmaking studio with full size Charles Brand Press. A 20? x 30? dance studio with wood floors, a music room with baby grand piano and bedrooms designated for writers that would like a desk. Green Hill Artist Retreat is located on southwest Vermont in a unique geographical location nestled between the Green Mountains and northern Taconic Range. We are remote yet within easy driving distance to villages and major urban and seasonal cultural centers. Artists have access to a common sitting room/library with wood stove,
3 outdoor decks, a meditation gazebo, a sauna and miles of walking trails
Green Hill Artist Retreat offers 1 -2 week residencies and can accommodate 3 artists at a time or a small group that is working collaboratively, such as a choreographer and 4 dancers or a group of artist developing a specific project.
We are in close driving proximity to the Appalacian Trail, Long Trail, Lake George, Lake Champlain and many other lakes, rivers and quaint villages, We arelocated within easy driving distance to numerous major cultural venues including: Mass MOCA, Clark Museum, Williamstown Theater, Dorset Theater Festival, Weston Playhouse, Marlbourough Music Festival, The FLynn Theater, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Tangelwood, Jacobs Pillow, Bread and Puppet Theater and many more.
Green Hill Artist Retreat was founded by pianist and composer, Gary Schmidt, residency coordinator and visual artist and choreographer, Erika Schmidt, curator. As working artists, they relocated to Vermont in 2008 to continue their artistic endeavors while developing their property into a comfortable place for other artists seeking solace and the benefits of working in an environment surrounded by nature. Erika and Gary work individually and collaboratively in multidisciplinary performance that integrates dance, physical theater, sound scape, kinetic sculpture and film. Green Hill Artist Retreat support artists working in traditional and experimental mediums and heartily support artists that come to work in solitude as well as those that enjoy dialogue that promote the sharing and exchange of ideas that emerge when a small group of artists come together.
