Craft Village


Craft Village has been ranked as No. 2 best artist residency in India by leading platform Kerosene Digital recently, due to quality of artists applying from more than 70 nations and award winning artist and designers coming from across the world doing break through work in Art & Design. Craft Village is a member of Residency Unlimited, New York (world largest artist residency network) and Res Artis of Amsterdam (having over 600 organisation and individuals as member in over 70 countries) AND World Craft Council-APR. In 2016-2018 alone, Craft Village received over 100-applications from 60-countries, out of which eight artists have so far awarded spring & fall residency projects. It also offers specific residency programs that are linked to traditional & folk craft forms.

Artist Residency programs are offered twice in an year on various areas of work, including clay and ceramics, textiles, products, public spaces, film, graphic and communication, installations, theatre and many other areas of art and design. These artist stay in individual rammed earth cottages during their residency period, and have studios for 2-D and 3-D work. The Artist Residency is located in lush green part of Delhi, it is the only sustainable/green building with negative carbon footprint, ground water harvesting, earth quake and fire resistance besides having the best quality of air (29.6 Microns) in town. (Delhi that has 200 Micron (2.5 PPM) and UN prescribed limit is 130 Microns).

Craft Village is a social organisation (a member of World Craft Council-APR, Res-Artis, Netherlands, and Residency Unlimited, New York) working for the training and promotion of Craft Sector, and has trained more than 10000 Urban & Global population through Rare & Exclusive Craft Workshops, including learners from countries like Singapore, Indonesia, USA, UK, Netherlands, Poland, Mexico and many others, which has helped not only Indian crafts to build an interface with global consumers but also increased demands of cultural & craft products. The various activities helped 100’s of Craft Forms and thousands of Artisans a chance to get connected with modern consumers, Industry and Craft Patrons. Government recognized Craft Village for its innovative approach for bringing newer talents and connecting traditional crafts with modern consumers. Craft Village has impacted more than lives of 2-million people directly & indirectly, while connecting metros & Tier-2 cities with Rural India.

It has helped in marking ‘International Craft Day’ on 15th October every calendar year, a day dedicated to celebrate world crafts, started International Craft Awards in 2017 with participation from more than 30-countries to recognize artisans/craftsman, designers, organisations and all who are associated with Craft Sector for its development & growth.  In 2018, it started India Craft Week and in 2019 India Craft Preview in London amongst many other initiatives taken so far.
