Constellation Studios is a creative destination for artists in Lincoln, Nebraska. In a professional studio, we mentor and educate, and we explore and celebrate interconnections between traditional and innovative print, paper and bookmaking.

Constellation Studios is designed for relief and etching printmaking, letterpress, papermaking and bookmaking activities. Artists in Residence work independently and design their program with the assistance of the director. 1 to 4 weeks, self-funded, shared housing in onsite loft apartment.

$450 per week, including the on-site guest room accommodation, shared bath and kitchen, schedule permitting

$280 per week, without accommodation

Constellation Studios upholds quality, collaboration, mentoring for artists, value of handwork and process, artistic interpretation of images and content, technical exploration and innovation in print, paper, book arts. Constellation Studios will bring people together to experience art making, critical thinking, understanding of print traditions and in contemporary culture.

Constellation Studios is located in downtown Lincoln, in an intense area for new urban renewal, within blocks of UNL, art galleries and studios, museums, businesses and urban living and energy. The Union Plaza park is across the street, with bike paths, gardens, foundations, cafe, outdoor sculpture and amphitheater. Bike routes connect throughout the city and into downtown.

Constellation Studios is at 21st and O Street, with approximately 3125 sq feet ground floor, with a 3000 sq feet lower level. The ground floor houses a large open printmaking studio, and gallery the lower level houses the papermaking and bookmaking studio. A loft apartment space has the guest room, with shared bath and kitchen.

Criteria for an Artist Residency: Personable with communication skills, takes initiative, self-motivated, punctual, organized, adaptable, with a professional attitude. Has creative ideas and artistic goals, and can discuss art ideas. Art skills in printmaking, bookmaking, papermaking required and valued. Understands the significance of Constellation Studios and Director Karen Kunc, and keeps this vision and mission foremost.

Description of Organisation:

Constellation Studios is the vision of artist Karen Kunc, a renowned artist, teacher and mentor, who has an established international reputation in woodcut printmaking and book arts, and is in demand as a teacher and workshop leader. Kunc provides the artistic expertise and intellectual presence for Constellation Studios, as director and manager, and a collaborator and leader of creative engagements.

Constellation Studios opened in 2014, in a newly renovated storefront building on the east edge of downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. Constellation Studios is equipped with printing presses and equipment designed for relief and etching printmaking, letterpress, papermaking and bookmaking activities, and mixed-use spaces.

Constellation Studios is a flexible and organized creative space for member artists, specialty workshops, public gallery with openings and educational events. Constellation Studios sponsors internships and residency programs holds gallery exhibitions and conducts art sales engages with audiences for workshops and collaborative activities.
