A multipurpose residency programme that is based in the Contemporary Culture Centre Matadero Madrid, in the South of Madrid. This residency space, based in a 5.000 sq metres hangar, is shared by visual artists, musicians, writers, researchers, curators, students, cultural agents, people working in education and hybrid profiles interested in working in arts and culture.
It offers different programmes like a mobility programme for international and national visual artists and musicians, working spaces for local cultural agents and musicians, a residency programme based in local schools, a specific programme for thinkers… And a series of collaborative research programmes that are based in the residency for long periods of time working in issues such as migration, ecology and radical pedagogy.
The residents have access to working spaces, accomodation for international creators, honoraries, production budget, institutional support, local professional visits and technical support.
It is specially interesting for artists and other cultural agents who are willing to go beyond their regular working processes and that are open to generous exchanges.
Matadero Madrid is a living and changing space at the service of creative processes, participatory artistic formation and dialogue between the arts. It developed from its will to contribute to a reflection about contemporary sociocultural environment, as well as from its vocation to help the cultural construction of today and tomorrow.
A special part of Matadero&rsquos mission is to stimulate contemporary creation, taking on an approach which not only is multidisciplinary, but also aims to surpass boundaries between the arts. All forms of artistic expression are considered: performing arts, cinema, music, design, architecture, urban and landscape planning.
Matadero&rsquos commitment to diversity is also reflected through its model of institutional cooperation between the private and the public sector. Such a model promotes people&rsquos participation in the project and guarantees plurality, independence and viability.
