We are starting cultural project in a 500 years old house, the Casale Rappini. Our guidelines are: culture, territory, history and self sustenance.

In our countryside house, between Roma and Napoli, the artists can find inspiration and pace to develop their projects.

Casale Rappini can offer to them different accommodations and places to work: from a shared rooms to full apartments as places to live. Various indoor spaces where work, from independent ones to shared spaces with the others residents in the house. We also have big outdoor spaces under the trees to stay, walk or think. In addition, there is a swimming pool and a canoe in the river for relaxing time.

We would like to hosts artists from all around the world to create exchange experience between the territory and the artists (if they want) as part of our project.

As part of our project, will be awesome if we can achieve some kind of exchange between the territory and artist in residence. Give a feedback to our territory is very important for us because we think that art and culture can be tool for social transforming.

Residency Programme since: 2015
Description of Organisation:

THE PAST:

The history of this ancient farmhouse dates back to the sixteenth century, when the lands of the Agro Pontino belonged to the Papal State and the agricultural practices had been difficult by marsh and malaria.

The Bolognese engineer Gaetano Rappini was the architect of the first reclamation of the modern era. He arrived in the swamp under the direct request of Pope Pius VI and was rewarded by the same with the concession in the ownership of the Casale and the land between Sezze and Terracina to the east of the Via Appia.

It was 1777 and since then the history of the Rappini family intertwined with the history of the Casale and of that territory. Agriculture and breeding became possible thanks to the reclamation, the local economy changed and with it the Casale, which slowly became the productive center of a huge agricultural estate.

Over the centuries the Casale has been enlarged and reduced according to the needs. At the beginning there was a church and some rooms for residential use, then large warehouses on several levels. Subsequently it was fortified and the sighting tower was raised. Then came the time of the stables and the fences, the hive and the shelters, then the school, the infirmary, the bakery… They even had their own currency, the Pontifical Paludella. Therefore, the Casale became a real point of reference for the territory.

THE PRESENT:

This inspiration has not been lost: even today the Casale is a place of welcome and exchange. If in past it offered accommodation to peasants and pilgrims, now it offers accommodation to travelers and artists from all over the world.

If it was an agricultural warehouse, today our goal is to become a warehouse of ideas.

Culture is essential for a healthy and happy society, a sector that is still emerging in the territory. For us, it is important and fundamental to contribute with active spaces of creation, sharing, experimentation, growth and development.

We believe in cultural expression as a tool for the development of the human being.

In our society, which interacts between work and family, it is necessary to inform ourselves, create, experiment, grow, learn and share. We understand that there is no better way to do it than culture, in every form of expression, to achieve these goals.

A meeting point for all those who feel the need to share, experiment and create.

A space open to cultures, arts, a workshop for production, a place of exchange, meeting and collaboration.

A place to develop new cultural activities and programs.

A cultural center where anyone with a project, an idea or a dream to share and realize together is welcome.
