CAI PROJECTS A.I.R. is an international artist-in-residence programme for contemporary artists and current creators.
The art residency programme is located in the city centre of Cadiz, a coastal city surrounded by historic heritage sites and popular culture venues (flamenco). An ideal setting to explore and research, with access to local archives, libraries, theatres, museums and the local university.
Artists are invited to share studios and live together with the directors of the programme, thus giving the resident artists a unique opportunity to be deeply immersed in local life, to create in a professional and artistic environment and to generate positive and enriching experiences with the local community. We invite artists to make use of the two single rooms available complete with small individual workspaces; there is also a large shared studio space with individual desks at artists’ disposal.
CAI Projects A.I.R.´s main objective is to create a professional and critical space for experimentation and dialogue, to promote a culture of participation and cooperation for social change and to foster ideas of coexistence, inclusion, diversity and interculturality. Therefore, we collaborate with numerous public and private institutions, museums, associations and art galleries and endeavour to complement the local art scene with our projects to create a strong network of collaborations for our artists in residence.
Artists are not required to produce a finished work of art, they can choose to talk about their creative process, do an open studio, an artist talk or run a workshop.
Below you can read the different activities that CAI Projects organizes:
“Confluences”, a cycle of conferences and artist talks where artists in residence share their projects and creative process with the wider public.
“Symbiont”, a collaborative project that brings together artists from different disciplines and backgrounds to experiment and create an original piece of work.
We also aim to develop pedagogical and didactic activities through artist-led Workshops and to bring the community closer to the contemporary art world.
CAI Projects curatorial team gives the artists in residence the opportunity to have an exhibition on a case-by-case basis, depending on the characteristics and the quality of their work.

CAI PROJECTS was founded in July 2019 by the Andalusian interdisciplinary artist Juan Isaac Silva and the Romanian film theorist Raluca Dumitrescu. It is a platform that follows contemporary art practices and seeks to strengthen art and education, research and experimentation, therefore, motivating multidisciplinary artistic innovation. Established in Southern Spain (Andalusia) in the city of Cadiz, a maritime settlement with over three thousand years of history and strategic point of entrance, passage and meeting place of cultures and civilizations, where the Atlantic Ocean converges with the Mediterranean Sea. CAI Projects is a private, non-profit organization that brings support and companionship to contemporary artists and current creators to develop socially relevant projects in specific contexts, i.e. within the local, social and cultural network of the city. Our main objective is to use the rich historical, cultural, environmental and geopolitical heritage of the city to generate creative stimuli through the interaction of artists, thinkers, cultural agents and the wider local community. We seek to encourage dialogue and critical thinking and wish to find new ways of thinking and doing while at the same time establishing a space for the confluence of cultures and ideas.
