Birdsell Project

The Birdsell Project began in September 2014 with the mission to revitalize vacant spaces by opening them to artists and the community in South Bend, a rust-belt city in northern Indiana. Since its conception, the Birdsell has produced its first winter installation featuring 28 visual artists, collaborated with local and out-of-town musicians, hosted visiting artists, and created a space for community events.

Artists participating in the residency program will create site-specific installations that respond to the spaces they are working in, allowing artists and the public new ways to contemplate and understand these spaces. The program offers a collaborative environment for participating artists as well as engages them with the community at large.
