We run a 15 meter sailing boat prepared for arctic and antarctic expeditions.

This sailing boat is currently exploring Greenland.

The boat is a floating and traveling home and workshop for the four artists we host at a time, for one month expeditions.

We aim to build an artistic database, documenting the evolution of polar regions.

The approach adopted by MareMotrice consists in combining various perspectives on polar regions that are currently in full mutation. This may appear similar to the numerous scientific missions present in the Arctic and Antarctic. Except here we replace the scientists with artists. Bringing artists out to sea, to islands or around icebergs has a distinctive outcome: it is their job to feel a place and what goes on there, it is their job to transmit what they see and live, on sensory, emotional level.

The residencies we organize last 3 to 4 weeks. For each expedition we seek together – association and artists – for funding and sponsorship

Residency Programme since: 2015
Description of Organisation:

The ocean. It makes up 70% of the planet. Almost everything. Now when man ponders his position on earth, is a good time for him to turn to where he came from: the ocean. On the ocean, especially on a boat, man is nothing. He rediscovers himself. He rediscovers the world, or at the very least 70% of it. Non profit MarMotrice aims to promote a dialogue between the ocean and mankind.
