DEADLINE: November of every year
application: via email with a letter (expression of interest), CV and proposed new project for residency. Part of the application process is a period of discussions to evaluate the feasibility of the project.
In 2010 Artegiro established an annual residency period for international artists where the artist spend a period of 4 to 6 weeks in Italy, Europe studying and producing new work.
So far, since its inception, more than sixteen artists from all over the world have participated in the program.
The program is designed to provide artists the opportunity to develop new projects and have sufficient reflection time to do so. The artists’ residency project is curated by Artegiro, in ways that are always negotiated with the artist, but encouraging dynamics of exchange and innovation that are at heart of the Artegiro project. The residency provides opportunities to meet and network with other artists and significant art centres, galleries and museums. With the 2015 edition, the residency has extended to art writers that wish to carry out a study or a critical research to be published with or without Artegiro. Since 2013 the residency takes place in Conzano, Alessandria in the Nort West of Italy ( Monferrato region).
The Artegiro Artist Residency fits in the wider Artegiro project created by curator, Renata Summo-O??Connell. Artegiro is a transnational curatorial project with a collaborative trait, a temporary gallery, an artist residency, an ongoing research project.
Because of this collaborative character Artegiro developed and does exist as a group, a fluid, open group of artists who share a number of significant outlooks and practices concerning art, art production and art practice, as well as a commitment towards growing a relationship between art and society.
Artegiro curatorial projects and residencies are destined to visual artists , performers and art critics who:
– develop a residency project in which Artegiro is involved from concept to realization to exhibition
– are interested in continuing work with Artegiro or that at least see Artegiro role in their future projects in some way
– propose a project that has a chance to develop further in other expressions ( further performances, further installations, publications etc).
Last but not least, about artists eligibility for the residency :
a) the artists are people with whom Artegiro is likely to collaborate again with
b) the artists are interested in developing a theoretically substantial project with Artegiro curatorship
c) the collaboration has to return to Artegiro part of what Artegiro has invested in the residency, not necessarily financially, but at least in form of contents, artwork, collaborations, promotion.
