ARE (artist Residencies Enschede)

Name of Residency: ARE (Artist Residencies Enschede)

The guest studios are well equipped with tools and hand machinery like jigsaws and drills. they are  suitable for all the visual arts and especially installation art. We provide the artist with the tools they need to realise the artworks as much as we can.

So for example sound installations can be made, projections, large textile projects etc. but also small-scale sculpture and painting. They are not suitable for
traditional sculpture (large stone and wood carving) or welding. Both studios are spacious quiet and receive plenty of natural light.                                                                                                        After a selection of a professional committee we invite 8 artist a year for a period of 3 months. Each period we have two artist that start around the same time. We welcome them with a dinner or small event to be introduced with the local art scene. In the building we have an exhibition space which every month is an opening where the artist and people get to know more artist from Enschede. The students of the University of the Arts are well known with the place as well. There is a strong collaboration.

At the end of the residency period the artist shows their work in an exhibition space. We provide the artist with a small budget to realise their exhibition.
