Opening of Jordan Marani’s exhibition WORD at Res Artis Melbourne office!
Res Artis, together with our generous benefactors Michael Schwarz and David Clouston, invite you to the opening of Jordan Marani’s exhibition WORD.
Over the last 30 years Jordan Marani’s work has been littered with profanity drawn from the ugly vernacular of Australian society, politics and the pub. Text works have been one major strand of his practice (which also includes installation, sculpture, abstract and figurative paintings) since he first started creating text and four-letter word paintings in the late 1980s, with a series of ‘Shit Paintings’. He has been exploring wordplay, profanity and the joys of four-letter words ever since.
WORD brings together some of his recent text works created during residencies in Germany at Res Artis Member, Leipzig International Art Programme, as well as in Melbourne. In WORD Marani has incorporated texts that are somewhat more mundane; from SHIT, FUCK, PISS, he has turned to RENT, DEBT, BABY, WORK. Less the angry machismo of pub-life and more of the drudging preoccupations of the suburban imagination.
Jordan Marani is represented by Daine Singer.
This project is supported by the Victorian government through Creative Victoria.
Exhibition viewing times: Thursday 11 – Sunday 13 April, 12 noon to 5pm
